Our Services

When the parent's ability to care is in doubt children need well-informed decisions to be made about their future. Parents, where there are serious worries need the encouragement, support and the ability to explore their potential to nurture babies and young children.

Families are referred to Browning House when the professionals involved:

  • Are unsure of the parent's abilities
  • Believe there is significant risk but that there may be chance for the family to remain together
  • Or, when there are serious concerns but little evidence to reach a definite decision about the long term future of the child.

All referrals are considered and we will work creatively in order to provide a tailored package of assessment to meet the needs of the families using one (or a combination) of the following approaches:
Residential Assessment
, Day Assessment or Community Assessment.

Although not an exclusive list we work with parents with:

  • Drug and alcohol addictions (they must be on a rehabilitation programme)
  • Families who have previously presented a risk of violence or issues of domestic violence
  • A learning difficulty
  • Sensory impairments, epilepsy, or other physical difficulties
  • Mental health difficulties.

We work with families from a wide range of ethnic and faith backgrounds as well as with non English speakers.

We provide high quality, detailed independent objective assessments and reports for referral agents.

Child Protection Training

Browning House can also deliver Child Protection Training to individuals or groups.  NCAST can be used to improve the decision-making process by assessing and assisting the child-parent/carer relationship, and is a standardised and evidence-based tool that uniquely assesses interactions between very young children and their parent/carer.  Click here for more details.
