Day Assessment

Day Assessment may be used as:

  • A means of assessing a parent's commitment to undertaking an assessment without moving their baby from a settled foster carer placement.
  • A means of assessing a parent's suitability for residential assessment where there have been concerns about violent behaviour, unstable mental health or other risks
  • A means of introducing a partner into the assessment where a parent and child are resident at Browning House
  • A means of familiarising a parent with Browning House and staff prior to admission. Short periods of time can be spent in the House with their children building on existing skills. Parents with learning difficulties have benefitted from this introduction to the House.

The multidisciplinary staff team are experienced in all aspects of child protection and its associated risks. Each family will be assigned their own case manager and key worker during their assessment who will receive comprehensive information based on you and your family’s history and your time in the house. The information is carefully analysed and an interim and full report is produced which will enable important decisions to be made for the benefit of the child. All decisions are made as a team with no individual working in isolation.

We have developed a creative and flexible response to supporting parents to recognise the needs of their child through example and demonstration, education, observation and positive encouragement. This is achieved through a variety of models and tools used and developed by Browning House.

Browning House is situated within the bustling multicultural community of Chapeltown, Leeds.

All admissions to Browning House are pre-planned and we welcome initial telephone enquiries from professionals to discuss potential placements.
