Browning House will work with parents and their children where professionals are concerned about the child's safety in the care of their parents and where high levels of supervision are needed. We conduct a risk assessment before agreeing to work with a family and will only exclude a parent from the service if they represent an unmanageable risk to children, other residents, themselves and staff.

Browning House has extensive experience of working with harder to place families and gives consideration to and works frequently with single parents and couples where the following factors may be present:

• Families who have previously presented a risk of violence or issues of domestic violence
• Parents with drug and alcohol addictions although, they must be committed to becoming drug free and be actively participating in a rehabilitation programme
• Parents with a recognised learning disability or parents with additional learning needs
• Parents with sensory impairments, or epilepsy
• Parents with mental Health difficulties
• Families where they may have been previous injuries to children
• Parents with a history of volatile behaviour
• Families where English is not the first language
• Single parents or couples
• Single fathers
• Carers who may not be the biological parent.
