Information for Parents

Welcome to Browning House, where we hope to be able to support and encourage you to recognise your child's needs by building on your skills. Our main aim is to make sure that children remain safe and protected.

We hope that the following brief information is useful and gives you an idea of who we are and what to expect from your assessment. You can also see a tour of Browning House and a Residents Handbook which goes into more detail about your assessment, rights and responsibilities.

Browning House is in Chapeltown, Leeds. It is a large, well equipped house with a secure garden. When you arrive you will be given your own fully furnished room or flat which you will share with your child. You will also have two cupboards in the kitchen and nursery. There are communal areas which all residents use including a lounge, dining room, a well-equipped kitchen, baby changing nursery, conservatory playroom and laundry room.

Your assessment will involve a number of processes including:

  • Direct observation of you with your child/children. These are recorded daily by staff and we encourage you to read your personal records.
  • Use of an audio detection system which aims to protect your children and yourself by detecting problems.
  • A mixture of individual and group work sessions.
  • The usual length of an assessment is 12 weeks, however everybody is different and assessments vary depending on what kind of help and support you need.

Your child remains your responsibility at all times.
